Team Qatar, supported by QatarDebate Center—a member of Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development—is participating in the World Schools Debating Championship (WSDC 2026). Hosted in the Kenyan capital, Nairobi, from July 14 to 24, the championship features participation from more than 80 countries, with the team representing the State of Qatar under the auspices of the Ministry of Sports and Youth.

This participation comes as part of the Center’s ongoing efforts to prepare and qualify national talent for international competition. The initiative aims to hone critical thinking, analytical, and public speaking skills, while offering debaters a valuable opportunity to engage with top international teams and gain experience within a high-level competitive environment.

The national team comprises Al-Anood Al-Kaabi, Al-Ghalya Al-Majali, Fatima Al-Rashid, Mohammed Amer Al-Hamidi, and Amira Al-Ishaq.

Coach Al-Anood Hamad Saud Al Thani leads the team’s training, while Fatima Maarafi serves as a member of the championship’s judging panel—a milestone reflecting QatarDebate Center’s success in cultivating qualified Qatari talent capable of both competing and judging in premier international championships.

Al-Ghalya Al-Majali, a member of Team Qatar, stated:

“We are proud to represent the State of Qatar in the World Championship, and we fully recognize the weight of this responsibility. This participation offers a precious opportunity to compete against world-class elite teams and gain new insights. We strive to present our absolute best, reflecting the high caliber of Qatari debaters in a manner worthy of our nation.”

On her part, Coach Al-Anood Hamad Saud Al Thani noted:

“During the training program, we focused on sharpening critical thinking and analytical skills, building quick response time, constructing arguments, and mastering delivery. This enables team members to confidently navigate diverse issues and debate topics. We are confident in their ability to deliver a performance that reflects the dedication and effort invested in preparing for this championship.”

QatarDebate Center has participated in the World Schools Debating Championship since 2010 as part of its mission to prepare a generation of debaters capable of representing Qatar in major international forums, thereby enhancing its presence and stature in the debate arena regionally and globally.
