QatarDebate – member of Qatar Foundation for Education, Science, and Community Development- recently organized the Qatar Universities Debate League Nationals (QUDL) in English, held on March 29 & March 30, 2019, at Al Multaqa (HBKU Student Center), with a total number of 16 participating teams from 7 institutions. The participants debated around five motions during the tournament.
The 2 days-long event featured 16 teams represented the following universities: Carnegie Mellon University in Qatar, Hamad bin Khalifa University, Qatar University, Northwestern University Qatar, and Georgetown University in Qatar, Texas A&M University Qatar, and Weill Cornell Medical College in Qatar.
It worth mention that there were 2 Award Ceremonies for this event, On Saturday, March 30th, was the QUDL Nationals Awards Ceremony awarding the winners of Nationals. QD awarded Georgetown University in Qatar as the champion, followed by Runner-up award to Qatar University. On Friday, March 29th, the QUDL Awards Ceremony was held to award the winners of the league that consisted of 4 league tournaments spread out between October 2018 and February 2019, QD awarded Qatar University as the best university. Participants also received certificates of participation and the top 10 speakers received certificates and medals for their debate participation.
